When someone chooses to follow Jesus, how do you help them move down the right path? Start by vision casting the greatest blessing that they can experience as a follower of Jesus. Consider sharing this with them:
"It is a blessing to follow Jesus. It is a great blessing to lead others to follow Jesus. It is a greater blessing to start a new spiritual family. It is the greatest blessing to equip others to start new spiritual families."
This is a good way to begin to train someone as soon as they choose to follow Christ, in order to start them on the right path in applying some of these principles.
First, get their contact information and then tell them: “It is a blessing to follow the Lord. It is a great blessing to lead others to follow the Lord. It is a greater blessing to start a new spiritual family. It is the greatest blessing to equip others to start new spiritual families. I want to help you start to have great blessing, greater blessing, and greatest blessing.
Make a list of 100 people you know and pick five of them (who don’t know the Lord) that you want to share with right away.” Then, when they have their list ready, equip them to share their testimony and the gospel.
Practice five times, once for each of the five people they have selected. Then role-play those individuals while they practice.
Then, make an appointment to see them, usually two days later. At that time they can share with you how it went when they shared the gospel. If they don’t show up, you have their contact information. Two days later, meet with them again. If they have not shared, then don’t talk about anything new. Offer to go with them to share. Offer to practice with them more. Do whatever you can to get them to begin sharing with others. You may begin to suspect, however, that this person is not “good soil,” and if so, you will likely not invest heavily in them. If they have shared but no one believed, be happy! Begin talking with them about baptism and introduce them to one of the disciple-making tools.
Pick some additional people from their List of 100 for them to share with and practice as necessary. If they have shared and some believed but they failed to tell them about the Greatest Blessing, then rejoice with them, review, and send them back to those people to continue the process. If they have shared and some believed and they told them about the Greatest Blessing, then be very excited!
Assume they are likely “good soil” and plan to invest significantly in their spiritual development. Start to talk about baptism and introduce them to the 3/3rds group format and model it for them so they can seek to begin a group with the people whom they led to the Lord.
