Zume Languages

3 min read

Zúme is a multilingual discipleship training platform. The training materials, website, and coaching tools are available in dozens of languages — and the list keeps growing as volunteer translators bring Zúme to their communities.

This page lists every language currently registered on Zúme. Each language has an English name (how it appears in admin and English UI), a native name (how speakers refer to the language in their own script), and a language code — the short identifier Zúme uses in URLs, the database, and translation workflows.

About language codes

Zúme uses legacy language codes as the primary identifier. These are the codes you will see in URLs and throughout the platform — for example en for English, zhcn for Chinese (Simplified), ar_jo for Arabic (Jordanian), and swa for Swahili.

Some codes follow familiar ISO patterns (fr, de, es), while others reflect Zúme's long history serving specific language communities (zhtw, zhhk, pa_pk). Each language also has a standard BCP 47 locale code internally (for example zh-CN, ar-JO) used by i18n libraries, but the language code column above is what you will encounter most often on Zúme.

Regional and script variants

Several languages on Zúme represent regional or script-specific variants rather than a single global standard:

  • Arabic — Modern Standard Arabic (ar) plus Jordanian (ar_jo), Tunisian (ar_tn), and Moroccan (ar_ma) variants
  • Chinese — Simplified (zhcn), Traditional (zhtw), and Cantonese Traditional (zhhk)
  • Punjabi — Eastern/India (pa) and Western/Pakistan (pa_pk)
  • Bengali — India (bn)

These variants exist because discipleship happens in the dialect and script people actually use day to day.

Right-to-left languages

Several Zúme languages are written right-to-left (RTL), including Arabic (all variants), Kurdish, Persian/Farsi, Punjabi (Western), and Urdu. The Zúme platform supports RTL layout for these languages.

This list reflects the languages registered in the Zúme language registry. Availability of specific training content may vary by language and is updated continuously by the global translation community.
